Android in 2013 [Happy New Year 2013]
Sony releases Gaikai for Android devices
Gaikai is the most amazing cloud gaming service I have ever tested and it’s a crime that Android version has not been publicly released. Sony acquired Gaikai for $380 million this year and I think they have big plans for them in 2013. Look for Sony to bring the greatest PS3 hits and future PS4 games to mobile devices with the public release of Gaikai for Android in 2013.
2013 Android Malware AlertAndroid gets first Trojan-SMS Virus
According to a new threat coming to light this week, a pretty nefarious trojan for Android has been discovered and should be guarded against in the coming days and weeks.
The trojan is capable of executing Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Based on what little we know, the malware can also receive commands and distribute text messages for advanced spamming efforts.
With Android malware up a reported 700% in the last twelve months, this newest threat – “Android.DDoS.1.origin” – comes as no surprise. The same goes for the method in which it is purportedly spread – through social engineering guises. Specifically, the malware dupes users by appearing to be a legitimate app from Google.
It’s a bit of bad news for the Android community as the virus are seeping their way into the little green robots functions. The latest report is straight out of Kaspersky Labs who have announced that the first malicious program, a Trojan-SMS has been detected for smartphones running on the Android OS. The Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a, has already infected a number of mobile devices. Disguised as a media player application the Trojan is actually malicious program that, if installed, will start sending SMSs to premium rate numbers without you even knowing resulting in your money passing from a your account into that of the cybercriminals.
Intel inside Android phones in the US
It feels like every year I write some story about Intel that says this will be the year they break into Android. We finally saw a couple Intel-powered smartphones show up overseas, but none of them made there way to the US. Since the next version of Intel’s mobile chip should feature an integrated LTE modem, we expect to finally see some design wins in US carrier stores.
Amazon releases an Android phone
The Amazon smartphone has been rumored for a long time and some predicted it would be announced back in September. It’s easy to guess that 2013 will finally be the year, but I would be shocked if there is not a Kindle phone on sale this time next year.

Mr Android 2011
M
r. Android was mostly partnered up (well, 63% of him had a significant other). But if he were single, and heterosexual, he could do a lot worse than Ms. Mac -- a composite of BlueStacks' average Mac-using Facebook fan, based on about 10 times the amount of data as Mr. Android. (BlueStacks' Facebook fan base has grown from 145,000 to more than a million in the last year; the information was burnished with Nielsen numbers).

The Android Mania - What is Android?
A
ndroid is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middle ware and key applications. Google Inc. purchased the initial developer of the software, Android Inc., in 2005. Android's mobile operating system is based on the Linux kernel. Google and other members of the Open Handset Alliance collaborated on Android's development and release. The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is tasked with the maintenance and further development of Android. The Android operating system is the world's best-selling Smartphone platform.Android has a large community of developers writing applications ("apps") that extend the functionality of the devices. There are currently over 200,000 apps available for Android. Android Market is the online app store run by Google, though apps can also be downloaded from third-party sites. Developers write primarily in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries.
The unveiling of the Android distribution on 5 November 2007 was announced with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 80 hardware, software, and telecom companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. Google released most of the Android code under the Apache License, a free software and open source license.
The Android open-source software stack consists of Java applications running on a Java-based, object-oriented application framework on top of Java core libraries running on a Dalvik virtual machine featuring JIT compilation. Libraries written in C include the surface manager, OpenCore media framework, SQLite relational database management system, OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics API, Web-Kit layout engine, SGL graphics engine, SSL, and Bionic libc. The Android operating system, including the Linux kernel, consists of roughly 12 million lines of code including 3 million lines of XML, 2.8 million lines of C, 2.1 million lines of Java, and 1.75 million lines of C++.
